Different Kinds Of Power Boats

Many people think of a power boat as a speedboat, but all boats that are powered by mechanical means are power boats, whether dinghy, launch or cabin cruiser. Many dinghies are powered by a motor such as a 2 or 4-stroke engine. This engine may be an onboard of off board engine. The dinghy can hold about 3 people and is made of lightweight timber, aluminium or fibreglass. While it is ideal for a lake or river, it is not safe enough to be taken out into large bodies of water.

Inflatables are also classed as power boats as they are powered by an engine. Though they are strong and can hold more people than a dinghy, they have no shelter from sun or rain. They are mainly used to take people from the shore to a larger boat rather than recreational purposes.

A catamaran is a strong and sturdy power boat that has two hull joined by a deck. They can hold up to ten people. But if you want a bit of comfort and somewhere to sleep and other overnight amenities – then a cruiser will be your choice of boat. Many cruisers have comfortable cabins down below where you can spend the night, and a galley that is used for cooking meals. It is like a home away from home.

Cruisers come in all different sizes and the one you will buy will be dictated by your needs and your budget. You need to ask how many people are likely to be using it, and whether they will be fishing or just taking a pleasure cruise.
