life guard whistle codes?
I recently took the American Red Cross lifeguard training program. One thing I noticed about it is that the whistle has many uses. Then a little after finishing that, I took a U.S. Power Squadron Course (boating safety). It had mentioned that blowing the boat’s horn, bell, whistle, etc. a certain amount of times is a code so that the other boaters understand you and vice versa. For example, blowing the horn 5 or more short blasts means danger, and one short blast means you intend to pass on your port side, 2 for passing on your starboard, etc.
Now I noticed that a similar system could be applied to lifeguarding. So this way other lifeguards know the difference of when they have to cover your position or when you’re trying to get the attention of a patron, because the lifeguard’s whistle has many different functions, just as a boat’s horn. What do you think?
I think you’ve answered your own question. You’ve seen a paralell between boats communicating with each other and life-guards doing the same thing. Thats a good thing as there are many parqalells in life. Try to find them all.
