Skipjack (Boat) $70.1 High Quality Content by WIKIPEDIA articles High Quality Content by WIKIPEDIA articles The skipjack is a type of sailboat developed on the Chesapeake Bay for oyster dredging. It succeeded the bugeye as the chief oystering boat on the bay, and remains in service due to laws restricting the use of powerboats in the Maryland state oyster fishery. The skipjack is slooprigged, with a sharply raked mast and extremely long boom (typically the same length as the deck of the boat). The mainsail is ordinarily triangular, though gaff rigged examples were built. The jib is selftending and mounted on a bowsprit. This sail plan affords the power needed to pull the dredge, particularly in light winds, while at the same time minimizing the crew required to handle the boat. Dangerous Junk for Sail: A John Harwich Adventure $28.98 John Harwich, an American expat living in Chiang Mai, is on Koh Samui for relaxation after deadly times in the Golden Triangle and Cambodia. Hell just hang out at the beach and relax, right? Wrong. The Vietnam vet gets challenged by an Australian expat into going to Singapore and then the Philippines aboard a Chinese junk loaded with Chinese antiquities that has just sailed down from Hong Kong. Harwich only agrees because three American girls are also on the junk and its their very first trip to Asia. He soon finds himself on an island dealing with human taffickers, pirates and a gladiatorial game where contestants are filmed for video sales as they are slaughtered. Runabout (Boat) $65.33 High Quality Content by WIKIPEDIA articles A runabout is any small motorboat holding between four and eight people, well suited to moving about on the water. Runabouts can be used for racing, for pleasure activities like fishing and water skiing, or as a ships tender for larger vessels. Harwich by Maloney, Joan M. [Paperback] $26.25 Harwich refused to fail. Its evolution from a small lower Cape Cod fishing village to eminence as a vacation mecca has involved several distinct stages. Fully two thirds of its residents owed their livelihood to the sea as mariners or fishermen until the midnineteenth century, when the steam locomotive spelled disaster to the coastal shipping industry and the Civil War nearly bankrupted the town. As the population declined, discovery that the sandy, acidic soil was conducive to cranberry cultivation provided much needed financial relief. However, it was the automobile that transformed the local economy and then the village society.Harwich provides a unique focus on how this one small coastal New England town coped with problems of national magnitude, such as industrialization and immigration. Men such as Caleb Chase, who used part of the fortune he made in Chase and Sanborns coffee trade to finance road construction that attracted vacationers, were not always heroes to neighbors now working in the splendid hotels that accommodated these visitors.
