How to find out the best methods of fishing(where,when and how to fish)?
Hello i basically want to learn a lot more about fishing…i live in Ireland in Co Meath and am only 15 so wont be able to travel long distances to fish!..I have a rod(10 foot 9 inches),reel,hooks,floats,weights,spinners and so on…I fish on my local river (blackwater which holds plenty of perch and trout and also has pike,tench,hybrids,eel,bream and roach in places)…i also fish on stocked lakes and dont fly fish(but would love to learn)….i fish with worms,swetcorn and maggets…i would love to know how to fish with bolies and stuff like that…i also want to learn more about rigs and all tha stuff…i want a very informative website for begginners and would also like an answer from someone who is experienced and is used to fishing in a climate like irelands…NO STUPID ANSWERS….
A 10`9“ rod for freshwater seems a little overkill, meaning its really heavy for the lures and bait you`ll be using. A rod that long is usually for saltwater surf fishing so you can cast it over the waves. None the less, one of the best things I did when I started fishing as a kid was to keep a fishing log book. Just use a simple notebook and record the air temp water temp, cloud cover, rain/wind etc, time of day, the day month year, the place you fished, the structure- rocks/submerged logs/lilly pads/drops offs/etc, the baits/lures you are using- their style and colors, and then what you caught, if anything. Even after a year you will start noticing trends and patterns to when the fish will bite what they like and what they dont like.
As you would with any lake or stream dont think like the fish think like the bait. Match the colors to bait you see in the lake bc thats what they are feeding on. If you see a lot of worms or after a rain you go fishing use worms since they get washed into the lakes, if you see nymphs or larvae use them. If you see baitfish use a lure that matches their size or color.
