Pro Football Writers Association $103.56 High Quality Content by WIKIPEDIA articles Technically known as the Pro Football Writers of America, this organization purports to be The official voice of pro football writers, promoting and fighting for access to NFL personnel to best serve the public. Goals of the organization include improving access to practices and locker rooms, developing working relationships with all teams and ensuring that football writers are treated in a professional manner. As of 2005 the group consisted of over 300 writers, editors, and columnists who cover pro football. In keeping with the goals of the organization, PFWA president Dave Elfin filed a complaint with the National Football League (NFL) at Super Bowl XLI, concerning the late arrival of the AFC champion (eventual Super Bowl champion) Indianapolis Colts. NFL Films and the ReProduction of Pro Football. $115.71 The choreographed work of NFL Films in their first documentary, They Call It Pro Football (1966), offers a fitting case study in which to examine the construction and promotion of pro football in the 1960s. Using techniques of textual analysis and social/cultural historiography, I investigate the representational dynamics of pro football in this film. In order to explicate the ideological, sociological, historical, and cultural significance of the film before, during, and after its release, I describe the emergence in the twentieth century of pro football and television, proffer the view that televisual texts perform cultural and political work and are open to multitudinous readings, apply the theory that gender is socially constructed and performed, and draw upon the concept of emotional branding. Pro Football: Its Ups and Downs $82.85 High Quality Content by WIKIPEDIA articles Pro Football: Its Ups and Downs, published in 1934, is a novel by Dr. Harry March that was the first ever attempt to write a history of professional American football. March had served in several executive offices with the New York Giants of the National Football League in the late 1920s and was a founder of the second American Football League. The book, while popular and entertaining with some important information and interesting anecdotes, is often viewed as inaccurate by modern sports historians. Jack Cusack, manager of the Canton Bulldogs from 1912 to 1917, summed up the books flaws by stating; In my library is a book… entitled Pro Football: Its Ups and Downs and in my opinion it is something of a historical novel. While in living in Canton, Ohio in the early 1900s, March played in or watched hundreds of football games featuring the best professionals of the day such as Christy Mathewson, Fielding Yost, Walter Okeson, Knute Rockne and Pudge Heffelfinger.
