I have a 19′ sunbird speed boat with a 115 HP OMC outboard engine. After running the engine for 3 to 4 minutes the other day a high pitched squel starting coming from the ignition. It was a conitnous high/low squel. Almost designed to be like an alarm type squel. The engine is a gas/oil mix. If you turn the boat off and then restart the sound goes away, at first, but then starts again a few minutes later. What is causing this sound?

This is an engine alarm. Consult your engine manual for specifics. It sounds like an overheat alarm. there is an old mechanics trick. Run the eng until the alarm goes off, then turn it off. then sprinkle water on the engine heads. If it sizzles your to hot. most likely the water pump, if you’ve not had it replaced in sometime they “take a set’ and don’t pump enough water at lower speeds. good Luck!
