catfishing? can anybody help me?
i have a few questions when fishing for catfish should i use a bobber when im fishing for catfish and does danny kings punch bait work good also and what kind of rigs work good when your using punchbait and what kind of tackle works best
1.) Should I use a bobber when I’m fishing for catfish?
Big floats are used a lot in cat fishing but it is not a must. And it’s really hard to cast with 5′ of line hanging from your rod during a cast because you want your bait near the bottom. I would suggest NOT using floats early in your cat fishing career. However in the hot summer they work pretty good.
2.) Does Danny King’s punch bait work good?
I don’t have any experiences with it but I’m sure it will work. But I think chicken liver would work 10 X better than any of the leading dip baits, stink baits, & dough baits. Just use a treble hook so the liver doesn’t fly off during a cast.
3.) What kind of rigs work good when using punch bait?
The Carolina rig is the most common for cat fishing. It’s made of a swivel, egg sinker, leader, and hook. Search “How to Carolina rig” on Google.
4.) What kind of tackle works best?
You are not going to catch humongous catfish when you first start out fishing. I would recommend something the size of a Zebco 33 to get started with. This reel is small compared to others but will work excellent for catfish. The old ones are 10 X better but the new ones work good too. Match it up with a 6′ or 6’6 Rhino rod and there’s your rod and reel. For line, use 12 lb. Stren. Use a 2-way swivel in it’s largest size without the snap clip on it, along with a 1/4 OZ egg sinker, and a #4 treble hook.
