How to properly clean fishing pole?

My fishing rod has been sitting and collecting dust. i want to know if there is a certain way of cleaning the reel and rod so that there isnt any damage done to it.

A damp cloth will do for cleaning the rod and outside of your reel off. If my rods/reels sat long enough to collect a lot of dust and what not I’d be more worried about the “guts” of the reel. After you get done cleaning the rod and the outside of the reel it’d probably be in your best interest to open the reel up and grease everything down. The grease is cheap and can be bought at Wal Mart. Greasing is very important to keep the reel working smoothly and efficiently. It’ll also give your reel a a longer life.
