Upstate New Yorker wants to move to Texas!! San Antonio? Austin??

Hi!

I’m a 23 year old female from upstate NY
A friend and I are planning on moving to either San Antonio or Austin in the fall. I don’t think I could handle a Texas summer quite yet! lol
I just don’t know which to pick. I lived in LA for 6 months after graduating from college, but I could not take all of the “actors” and it’s all about who you know – not to MENTION the traffic.
Anyway, just wondering what the positives/negatives are for each city? I’ve only ever driven through Texas, so I don’t really know much about it. I’ll obviously visit there before I move there, but here’s a little about me to see if I’ll fit in down south:

I’m very spontaneous, fun, friendly, love to go out for drinks, meet new people (cute guys especially and outdoorsy things (fishing, boating, 4wheeling, etc)

My ideal situation is just to fish, ride horses, go 4 wheeling, drink, and have tons of fun with a bunch of young people

For work I’ll probably bartend

so tell me where to go!!

San Antonio and Austin while being reasonably close geographically are very different.

San Antonio covers a larger area but often seems like the smaller town. There are more tourist activities in San Antonio, but the lifestyle for the local inhabitants is more relaxed and casual. San Antonio also has a stronger Hispanic heritage and influence.

Austin is a much more liberal and active city with a more active nightlife for young singles. There is worse traffic problems due to poor city planning, but this can be managed if you live near your work. Austin has the Colorado River running through the city which has been dammed in several places to make lakes. There are also several beautiful parks in the city.

Both cities are in the Texas Hill Country (though San Antonio is on the southern edge) which provides a lot of nice areas for outdoor activities.

Both cities are large cities so most opportunities are available in each. You just need to decide which city feels right for you. They are both nice.

I often think of the two cities as half sisters of the same Texan father. The San Antonio sister loves to have parties, but they are often large family parties, and she is very friendly. The Austin half-sister is more a debutante turned hippie who has wilder parties for shorter periods of time.
