Tips for a dedicated bass/inshore fisherman In Louisiana who can’t afford a boat?

I am a good dedicated fisherman in Louisiana but I can’t afford a boat. Is there any tips for me? I will take tips for where I can get a cheap bass boat or flat boat tht is in good condition. And If there is any way I can get a free one than that would be great. I will also take tips about great places to fish from the bank, or a way to make money fast to get a boat.

Surely you can afford $200-$300???? You can get a used canoe or Jon boat for that price. (Try looking in your local newspaper or on Craigs-list)

One of the best fishing boats I EVER had was a canoe. Canoes are easily transported, can get into bayous/lakes & rivers larger boats can’t, and you can slowly ADD things to them, (like swivel seats, Trolling motor, fish finders, Outriggers, Etc.), to make them more comfortable and “fishing/sea worthy”. (Check out this “dream” flat-back canoe called a Gheenoe- http://www.customgheenoe.com/gallery2/v/LoTide25/IMG_0307.jpg.html ) I had one of these, (Gheenoe) when I was in my 20′s.

To be honest, I caught BIGGER Bass out of my tricked-out canoe than either my Flats boat or my Bass boats.

Why?

Like I mentioned above, you can launch a canoe almost ANYWHERE. Imagine the implications to this…????

All those little ponds and small bayous you might have “eyed” on your way home from work/school immediately become accessible!!

Of all the Bass I’ve caught over 7-8LB’s, SIX were caught in small waters where larger Bass/Flats boats could not go.

Although you can use a Jon/canoe on bigger waters, it defeats the purpose of a smaller “launch anywhere” boat. And don’t think you can’t learn how to Tournament fish from a smaller boat- Mike Iconelli started his career fishing club tourneys out of a “slow”, “small”, 16FT Jon boat…….(as did many tourney pros)…..and WON consistently.

Think about it!!!

If you buy a canoe/jon at least your on the water and fishing! Holding out to get the “perfect” Tourney boat or Flats boat, (for FREE), is an absolute waste of your time! You can “learn the local water” just as easily in a smaller boat than a larger…..

SAVE your money!!!………You’d be surprised how cheap you may be able to find a used canoe or Jon boat….

Just remember- The fish don’t know or care what kind of boat you have…..!!!!! And when you start bringing stringers of fish back to the ramp, neither will anyone ELSE!

Bottom-line??? I guess you have to ask yourself- How “dedicated” are you?

Hope this helps ya??? Go check Craigslist! Good luck in your search!

PS- Thumbs up to Unmam- He is totally right about the current new boat buying scene…If you could save even more mullah who knows what you could purchase?!!!

Lobster Fishing

Lobster Fishing

$70.1

High Quality Content by WIKIPEDIA articles Lobster fishing is the commercial or recreational harvesting of marine lobsters, spiny lobsters or crayfish. Lobster fishing is part of the larger fishing industry. It uses tools such as boats, navigation, and other fishing technology. Fishing technology specific to the lobster industry generally includes traps, either rectangularshaped or halfcylinders, once made from oak but are now primarily made from wire mesh covered with a thick layer of plastic to reduce oxidation of the metal. Lobster traps, or pot warp, are connected to each other and to a buoy with rope. Sometimes there is a floater called a toggle tied between the trap and the buoy to keep the rope tight so as to reduce the possibility of the rope wrapping around rocks on the bottom and becoming stuck. Shetland Bus Boats

Shetland Bus Boats

$93.99

High Quality Content by WIKIPEDIA articles The Shetland bus was the name given to a clandestine special operations group that made a permanent link between Shetland, Scotland, and Germanoccupied Norway. From mid1941 until the end of the war it operated a number of vessels, mostly Norwegian fishing boats. Germany launched their invasion of Norway on 9 April 1940, and despite the efforts of the Norwegians and the British, the Germans controlled most of the country by the beginning of May. Only a few weeks after the occupation began, the first boats of an armada of fishing vessels and other boats began to arrive in Shetland. Many of these boats made several journeys across the North Sea carrying refugees. The boats were of many types and shapes, but most of those later used as the Shetland Bus, were from 50 to 70foot (21 m), with two masts and equipped with a 30 to 70 hp (52 kW) singlecylinder semidiesel engine, which made the characteristic tonktonk sound. They had a maximum speed of 9 knots (17 km/h). Author: Surhone, Lambert M./ Timpledon, Miriam T./ Marseken, Susan F. BigGame Fishing

BigGame Fishing

High Quality Content by WIKIPEDIA articles Biggame fishing, often referred to as offshore sportfishing, offshore gamefishing, or bluewater fishing is a form of recreational fishing, targeting large fish renowned for their sporting qualities, such as tuna and marlin. Biggame fishing started as a sport after the invention of the motor boat. Charles Frederick Holder, a marine biologist and early conservationist, is credited with founding the sport in 1898. He went on to publish many articles and books on the subject, noted for their combination of accurate scientific detail with exciting narratives. Purpose built game fishing boats appeared early in the 20th century. An example is the Crete, in use at Catalina Island, California, in 1915, and shipped to Hawaii the following year. According to a newspaper report at that time, the Crete had .. . a deep cockpit, a chair fitted for landing big fish and leather pockets for placing the pole. Moray Firth Fishing Disaster

Moray Firth Fishing Disaster

$70.1

High Quality Content by WIKIPEDIA articles The Moray Firth fishing disaster of August 1848 was one of the worst fishing disasters in maritime history on the east coast of Scotland, and was caused by a severe storm that struck the Moray Firth. The event led to widespread improvements to harbours and significant changes to the design of fishing boats over the remainder of the 19th century. Scottish fishing boats of the late 18th and early 19th centuries were generally small sail boats with open hulls that mainly fished close to shore. The shallow design of the boats allowed them to be launched by their crew from beaches or small harbours, but their open hull provided little shelter for the crew and made them susceptible to swamping and capsize in rough seas.
