best boat for 17 year old studant to live in – Sydney Harbour?

i want to know what boat would be best for me to live in while i go to university. I am looking to pay $15,000 to $25,000 and would like to get a boat that could sleep 2 people and has good facilities. I am also planning to live on boat until i finish uni and probably wont do to much traveling on it. How big should the boat be? Sail or Power? Catamaran or Single Hull? all advice and suggestions would be greatly appreciated

If a sailboat is what you are looking for to basicly just live aboard, get as big as one as you can for the money! Look for something from the early 70′s to mid 80′s. Look for a solid fiberglass hull, not a cored hull. A cored deck is something you can deal with, but not a cored hull. For the money you’re talking about, a 30 to 36 foot boat is proba bly what your looking at, but a 40 would be better. You could easily find a catalina 30 for that money in the states, however it might be a bit small. Catalinas have many facilities including air, hot and cold water, and decent showers. I’ve sailed and slept in a hunter 34 – circa early 80′s – which could be had for $20,000. This would probably do nicely. Hunters have many nice facilities too, and lots of volune due to large beam carried well aft, ie nice bed in the back. Some designers build more volume in their boats with a scrafice to sea keeping abilities and sailing performance in more extreme, offshore conditions. However these designs are great for nice weather, costal or day sailing. Catalina, and Hunter fall into this catagory. Don’t get me wrong though – both of these companies have had many boats with ocean crossings. A center cockpit sailboat will have more livibility below, usually a large aft suite, but usually cost more. An O-day can be had for the money you are talking, as well as many other companies’ boats. Shop around.
I sail a Bristol 22 which would be way too small to live on, but larger bristols would fit the bill, say a 32, 34, or 35.

Catamaran

$68.51

A catamaran is a type of multihulled boat or ship consisting of two hulls, or vakas, joined by some structure, the most basic being a frame, formed of akas. Catamarans can be sail or enginepowered. Catamarans are a relatively recent introduction to the design of boats for both leisure and sport sailing, although they have been used since time immemorial among the paravas, a fishing community in the southern coast of Tamil Nadu, India, and independently in Oceania, where Polynesian catamarans and outrigger canoes allowed seafaring Polynesians to settle the worlds most farflung islands. In recreational sailing, catamarans, and multihulls in general, had been met by a degree of skepticism from Western sailors accustomed to more traditional monohull designs, mainly because multihulls were based on, to them, completely alien and strange concepts, with balance based on geometry rather than weight distribution. However, the catamaran has arguably become the best design for fast ferries, because their speed, stability and large capacity are valuable. RadioControlled Boat

RadioControlled Boat

High Quality Content by WIKIPEDIA articles A radiocontrolled boat is a boat controlled remotely with radio control equipment. Electric Sport boats are the most common type of boat amongst casual hobbyists. Speeds are far below 15 mph advertised speeds and run times are less than 10 minutes between recharge. They are often toy boats bought at Model shops and retail outlets and sometimes modified for better performance. Due to quiet running, low speeds and simplicity of electric sports boats their use is common and are widely accepted at local lakes and ponds which is not the case for internal combustion model boats. This has led to the growth of Fast electric. Scale boats are replicas of fullsize boats. They can be small enough to fit into your hand, or large, trailertransported models weighing hundreds of pounds. More often than not they are a miniaturized version of a prototype, built using plans and/or photos, although there are variants of the hobby that utilize freelance designs. Another offshoot of this hobby is radiocontrolled submarines. Author: Surhone, Lambert M./ Tennoe, Mariam T./ Henssonow, Susan F. High Quality Content by WIKIPEDIA articles High Quality Content by WIKIPEDIA articles The skipjack is a type of sailboat developed on the Chesapeake Bay for oyster dredging. It succeeded the bugeye as the chief oystering boat on the bay, and remains in service due to laws restricting the use of powerboats in the Maryland state oyster fishery. The skipjack is slooprigged, with a sharply raked mast and extremely long boom (typically the same length as the deck of the boat). The mainsail is ordinarily triangular, though gaff rigged examples were built. The jib is selftending and mounted on a bowsprit. This sail plan affords the power needed to pull the dredge, particularly in light winds, while at the same time minimizing the crew required to handle the boat. As every citizen of Oredan knows, says the news reporter, this nation has been swept by a wave of terrorism during the few days past. Indeed, the now notorious Waern affair is so serious our Prime Minister is taking personal command of the Enforcement Corps and is directing the search for the terrorists himself . . . It is a time when individualism has become uncommon . . . and now, when an extremely individual soul appears, who turns out to have a high degree of empathic power, he proves a danger to society. A fully developed person of this type could do almost as he pleased, and there would be no one who would be able to deny him, says the man named Rayson, one of two who have felt the criminals empathic powers. Masterson, the second, stares contemplatively into space. Yes, he said. A person like that could demand almost anything from almost anyone and get it So how will we stop him?
