Baitcasting Fishing Reels

Anybody familiar with Lawrence fishing reels?

I posted a question a good while ago about some fairly old lures that were passed down to me from my Great Uncle, who passed away last year. I also just came across a reel that he had, which is a Lawrence. It’s a very old reel to say the least. It’s a baitcasting style reel, black, and actually still has nylon type fishing string spooled on it.

It’s amazing to look at equipment like this and see just how far fishing technology has come. There’s absolutely no drag system equipped on it. It would be an awfully awkward reel to use now. I don’t have a clue as to what gear ratio it is, but the crank is absolutely tiny on the thing.

I may post a picture for the heck of it and see if anybody may have the same one by chance or one similar.

Josh, I don’t know about Lawrence specifically but if you look up the company on a internet search and get a phone number for that company they might but it from you for there fishing museum. I do know the type though you have to hold the spool with your thumb with light presser when casting to prevent backlash and more pressure wile repositioning or waiting for a hit. Is it made of all brass with a bone or Ivory crank? How old do you think it is? I have seen some old brass reels go for $200. at a flee market. Be care full not to get taken if you sell it. Do your research!!!!!!!!!
